Do you read the ‘random’ extra pages in books?
You know the ones.
The copyright; about the author; dedications; acknowledgements.
At the back of Constellation: Leadership reimagined for a connected age, there is a page dedicated to AI – and it sums up my thinking about the technology’s use.
When the goal is simply an output, utilising AI tools makes sense.
But in being provided with an output (or close to it), we can lose something that I feel is important: the workings.
It’s a challenge I’m seeing in organisations, education and small businesses.
🤖 Using AI to help build a scheduling tool
But when it creates shifts incorrectly, no one understands how to remedy
🤖 Creating a slide deck for a job interview
But when you present, you’re too similar to other candidates
🤖 Researching an industry challenge
But when it cites fictitious data, we build business strategies on inaccurate insight
The output is important.
But there is rarely one route to an output.
And understanding how you arrived at the answer (as well as being able to bring others on that journey, through explaining your thinking) often provides far more value than the output alone.
What do you think about my three reasons for choosing not to use AI in Constellation?
