Did you buy a copy of your own book when you first saw it in a bookshop?
Do you keep a copy of the receipt as a momento?
Is it just me?
Is that weird?

I have to admit to being a strange mixture of excited, proud and a sort of surreal feeling of it not really being my book – despite having my name emblazened on the cover.
Nevertheless, I saught out a copy (the only one in the venue), and queued to purchase.
A small part of me thought I might be recognised from the name of my debit card. Whether I was or not, the cashier (rightly) didn’t play to my ego and but the book into a paperbag along with the receipt – where it has stayed since.
One day, I might frame it. Or, perhaps, add it to a copy of the book or the cover and include that in some sort of memory box collection. After all, it is my debut.
