When you think of high-performing teams, do you picture them working in Unison or Harmony?
🐝 Unison is when all voices are singing the same tune and words together.
As an art, it can be incredibly moving.
A crowd singing a national anthem can bring viewers to tears.
It’s predicatable, powerful, and uni-directional.
And, if one voice drops out, an observer is unlikely to notice.
🐝 Harmony is when each voice contributes differently to the melody.
It is both diversity and inclusion.
It allows for intricacy, nuance, and a variety of melodic outputs – from N-Sync to Nessun Dorma.
Unison is simple to achieve.
There’s no instructions provided to a football crowd.
A clear end goal (i.e., ‘Sing Jerusalem’) and familiarity of the output are all that is needed.
Harmony takes intentionality.
Without understanding of each other, how the members can contribute, and what strengths they bring, we risk performing impromptu Jazz, or singing in cliques of Duets or Trios.
So, if you need something special orchestrating with your team, let’s have a chat and make some beuatiful music.
