I’m a council estate lad.
Raised by a single parent until I was in double figures.
I’ve worked as a cleaner in an abattoir.
A forklift truck driver.
A hydraulic press operator.
I’ve made car exhausts, the wax on Persil boxes, picked pricing stickers off Our Price CDs, and delivered fence posts.
Then I found contact centres.
And it has opened doors.
It allowed me to learn about people and culture. About behaviour. And leadership.
It gave me the grounding to explore ideas. To connect. To research.
To be the first in my family to go to uni.
And this has culminated in something unique.
Something previously unstudied in academia.
Something sitting on bookshelves, rubbing shoulders with giants.
Something receiving critical praise and recognition.
Not too bad for a council estate lad, right?
