This #WorldBeeDay, we might naturally think of the queen as being the leader.
After all, we use the term “queen bee” in common language to indicate that someone is in charge.
But that’s not quite the case.
No individual bee is the leader.
Instead, there is a core reason for existing: the survival of the hive.
Each bee plays a specifc role in contributing towards that shared goal:
🐝 Comb builders are the hive architects
🐝 The drones fertilise the queen
🐝 Guards protect the entrances
🐝 Foragers fetch the food
The drones are never tasked with producing eggs.
The comb builders aren’t tasked with searching for food.
Each bee has their own strengths – and each plays to those strengths, which the purpose and the environment directs.
𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 becomes the 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫.
It subtly informs the decisions, behaviours, actions and approaches when the traditional leader isn’t in the room (which is most of the time).
