How do we surround ourselves with cognitive diversity?
Do we set targets and quotas to hire people specifically with different backgrounds and life experiences or those with protected characteristics?
No. What’s the point in that?
If we’re not also investing in creating a safe environment where anyone can say “I have an idea” or “I don’t agree”, the result is the same boy’s club with those individuals unable to contribute.
Every leader’s role is to create those environments.
To create safe spaces where everyone can contribute.
Not so we’re in some sort of banal, happy-clappy commune, or because it’s the morally right thing to do.
But so we’re in a high-performing culture, challenging groupthink and sparking innovation – ðð§ð because it’s the morally right thing to do.
Diversity is the output of inclusion.
