It’s Employee Appreciation Day – and I have mixed feelings.
Much like “Blue Monday”, the day was invented for commercial reasons: specifically, to sell a book: Dr Bob Nelson’s 1995 book “1,001 Ways to Reward Employees“
On one hand, I take issue with trivialising something so important; appreciating employees.
On the other – much like Blue Monday – if it starts conversations and, more importantly, actions that lead to greater appreciation for employees, then I can be converted.
Today will see pizzas and doughnuts and e-cards and claps.
I’ve had a dozen emails promoting recognition platforms.
Even accountants are shouting about “tax efficient benefits” for employees in my inbox.
But how will we keep this momentum on Monday? On Tuesday? On Wednesday?
How is it tied to your strategy and given as much consideration as every other differentiator in your business?
Let’s make that difference.
I can get behind that. Every day.
