Farts cure cancer.
Except they don’t.
This is the issue with popular science.
In an attempt to make it more accessible, the media makes it incorrect.
For this story, certain cancers responded to certain applications of certain compounds, which included a methyl group.
Methane is a methyl group attached to a hydrogen.
Methane is in some farts.
So the media simplified it. And made it inaccurate.
The same is currently happening with the clickbait, sensationalised studies into ChatGPT turning us to zombies.
That is not what the studies report (or even suggest).
What they do discuss is that memory retention varies by individual and by the method utilised in memory creation.
For example, the data suggest that writing with a pen forms more easily recallable memories than typing.
As with anything in the public domain, the answer is never in the headline.
Read further. Critique. Find opposing studies.
There’s enough pseudoscience approaches in our workplaces without us adding to it ourselves.
