“Like-minded”
I’ll let you in on a secret: That phrase is a bit of an eye-roller for me.
We like people like us.
They “get” us, and we fit and belong more easily.
But there’s no growth in being around like-minded people.
There’s no growth in a football crowd.
If others are too different, it can feel alien.
But there is plenty of space between those points.
In that space, self-awareness and wanting to understand another’s reasons for their viewpoints can create just the right balance of friendly friction and intrigue for growth.
There’s gold in them there hills.
But we’ll never find it if we keep digging with the same people exclusively.
