I’m not a phycologist.
(Even though it’s a frequent typo.)
I don’t study algae.
But maybe I should, because I spend a lot of time thinking about murky workplace environments.
Organisations often invest in leadership training, bias workshops, ED&I sessions, sales coaching and the like, which is all targeted at individuals.
But then those freshly trained individuals return to the same old culture.
Same dynamics. Same incentives. Same unspoken rules.
And all that training? It starts to slide. Like algae on a rock.
This is why we shouldn’t just clean the fish; we need to also clean the pond.
If you want lasting change, you have to treat the environment, not just the individual.
I am a psychologist.
And I help clean ponds.
So, perhaps I’m not so different from a phycologist after all…
