In honour of #LeviStraussDay (yes, really – it’s his birthday), I thought I’d try and conjure a new metaphor for culture.
Here goes: Culture is like a pair of jeans.
Woven from the threads of history, stitched together by shared experiences, and constantly evolving to fit the times.
Some parts, like the famously sturdy seams that made them perfect for the Gold Rush workers, hold traditions firm, while others, like a well-worn patch, show adaptation and resilience.
No matter how styles change, the essence remains: a blend of identity, function, and expression that tells a unique story with every wear.
