Survivor bias views successes or successful approaches whilst ignoring those instances that were unsuccessful – usually due to a lack of visibility of those unsuccessful instances.
LinkedIn is awash with stories of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, grinding your way to success, 5am clubs and the like, to be “successful”.
But success is unique to each of us.
For some, it’s a shiny car and big house. For others, it’s our children flourishing. It might be achieving a goal, overcoming a fear or learning something new each day.
Organisations that are high-performing (or perceived as high-performing) might also feel successful.
They might feel they have the right culture and approaches. They’ve always done it this way, and it’s paying off.
But what would success look like if your culture was aligned purposefully?
