Astrology, MBTI/DiSC, Enneagram, and the Big Five walk into a bar.
A fight breaks out over who’s the best personality model.
Who wins?
It might be a hypothetical brawl – but we do know how successful each of these approaches are, in terms of predicting life outcomes.
The quick summary of the study and articles below:
🐝 Big Five is more accurate than Jungian (MBTI, DiSC etc) and Enneagram
🐝 Even with Neurotisicism removed from Big Five, it is still more accurate than other models (though significantly reduced in its own accuracy)
🐝 Enneagram performs slightly better than MBTI, despite being simpler
🐝 Participants searched for and preferred Jungian models – possibly due to a combination of greater awareness of them and the positive framing of the outcome descriptions
🐝 Astrology/horoscopes had zero validity or reliability. Compared to Big Five, MBTI was halfway beween scientific and horoscope
To my I/O Psychologist colleagues, this is neither surprising nor new news.
But if you want to know more about how we can assess personality traits, stress responses and the predicted impacts on behaviour, decision making, risk and more, then book a chat with your friendly neighbourhood psychologist.
