“Remote workers miss out on the chance to meet people; the serendipity of office interactions”
– L’Oreal CEO Nicholas Hieronimus
Rubbish!
Firstly, it’s not serendipity.
In the office-based world, you were scheduled to be in a specific building at specific times with other, mainly, specifically-scheduled people.
It’s not seredipity; it’s resource & planning.
Secondly, the office was safe.
You were permitted to get up, go and grab a coffee and not be viewed or judged as a “slacker”.
Do we have that same permission in hybrid/remote?
Or do we judge based on someone’s camera being turned off or them not being available at a specific time?
Hybrid working is not about copying what we did in the office and replicating it online.
Its differences brings other opportunities – if we’re open to them.
Hybrid is here to stay.
We can ignore it (lift and shift from the office-based world), fight against it (hello, L’Oreal), or embrace those opportunities.
