That’s what I’ve taken off absent in my entire working life.
I didn’t take a single absence in nearly 20 years with my last employer.
I prided myself on my dependability.
I joked I was Wolverine.
I was an idiot.
Two weeks ago, I got Covid. And it kicked my backside.
This week, I’ve pinched a nerve in my neck and cannot swallow, sleep, walk or sit on a soft surface (bye bye, couch).
I’ve missed an employee engagement conference and the LetsDoBusiness event today. We’re on day 6.
I’ve had 5-times more absence in the last month than in nearly 30 years of employment.
And, as I write this, I have absolutely zero guilt – even though my business is hugely dependent on me.
A 100% attendance is a vanity metric.
A metric you pay for with your literal health.
Don’t be a younger Danny.
Listen to your body and mind.
Take the time.
